About this time Bert and Edith moved from being Hoteliers into Fried Fish Fryers. Bert had operated the shop at 6 Goldstone Street Hove. They then purchased a shop in Lavender Street, Brighton, which was run by Bert, Edith’s sister Elsie and her husband William Dorrington lived above and ran a shop at Sutherland Road, Brighton. Their daughter Dorcas ran the Coombe Terrace Shop. The latter was a 'gold mine' situated opposite the Preston Barracks during Second World War.
