My grandfather spoke little of his childhood, and I understood from my mother that following the untimely death of his parents he and his siblings were first adopted by his mothers parents and they were initially raised at Home Farm, Hailsham. She stated that he was very unhappy at this time, disliking the harsh existence. The farm house no longer stands and the land has been developed for housing, however a block of flats, near to where Town Farm stood, has been named Lade Court.
