Details of the Subscribers;
Rev. George Gavton Harvey, Vicar of Hailsham from 1846 to 1872. Followed by his son Rev. Francis Clyde Harvey who was vicar for 51 years from 1872 until 1923.
Thomas Burfield. Owner of Burfields Rope Factory in South Road which later belonged to a London Company. His daughter, Dr. Mary Burfield practised as a GP in Hailsham for many years.
C.C.Sinnock. father of Miss Fanny Sinnock, a very rich lady, great church worker and benefactress, lived in the next house up George Street to Courtlands, later used as part of the Council Offices.
Samuel Southerden, senior partner in Southerden and Crowhurst, Wine Merchants, in North Street.Their premises were opposite the (then) unused railway bridge,
Stricklands. Corn Merchants, their granary was in the goods yard at Hailsham. Latcr incorporated into the egg packing station and subsequently burnt down. The Principal, William Strickland, lived at Courtlands, George Street (later Council Offices). They also owned land opposite where later the police station stood. This was the "Deer Paddock", always three or four fallow deer there ,a buck and some does with the occasional fawn. About once a year the East Sussex Foxhounds met in George Street outside Courtlands. Horses and dogs all over the road but no motors to worry about. Fred Wood, the butler, handing round the stirrup cups and the dogs tooling from their jaws as they looked through the railings at the deer.
Charles Underwood Jenner. Founder of Jenners, stationers, at 44 High Street. Business was carried on by his son, Eustace Underwood Jenner.
Daniel White.Founder of Daniel White & Son Grocers and Drapers. Market Square. In the 1900s grocery shop managed by his grandson.Harry White and the drapery shop by another grandson Reg.
William Knight founder of Knight's Nurseries, Ersham Road.
William Beeny was in partnership with Daniel White as White and Beeny, Coal Merchants.
Stephen Mitchell, father or grandfather of the Misses Mitchell who ran a private school at Heron House, George Street next to Miss Sinnocks.

E.Martin, forename Ebenezer? Founder of Martin & Martin, Gents.Outfitters whose shop was at the corner of High Street and Carriers Path.
